Rockwell GuardLogix 5580 Safety Controller

The Rockwell GuardLogix 5580 is a safety-capable PAC that executes both standard and safety-rated control logic within the same chassis and programming environment. It achieves SIL 3 (IEC 62061) and PL e (ISO 13849-1) safety integrity using the CIP Safety protocol over standard EtherNet/IP networks, eliminating the need for separate safety network infrastructure. The controller uses the Studio 5000 Logix Designer environment with the Add-On Safety Instruction library, enabling standardized, re-usable safety routines across multiple machines and production lines. With up to 10 MB of combined safety and standard memory, it can handle complex safety applications involving hundreds of safety I/O points, drive-based safe speed monitoring, and coordinated safety zone control. The GuardLogix 5580 supports DLR (Device Level Ring) topology for network redundancy and maintains a secure safety signature that prevents unapproved program modifications.
